The Story
This painting is inspired by the Islamic teachings about the status of our mothers. The phrase “A mother’s dua is like the breeze of Jannah” serves as the heart of this artwork.
The central feature of this piece is the sculpture-like canvas draping that flows across the painting—inscribed with Hadiths and layered with a sheer organza fabric. This flowing fabric symbolizes the breeze of Jannah, evoking the blessings that a mother’s dua brings into our lives, guiding us toward success in both this world and the Hereafter.
Surrounding the ‘breeze’ are the lush gardens of Jannah, symbolizing the eternal home promised to the righteous. Imagery of pomegranates and grapevines is woven into the design, evoking the fruits of Jannah that we may one day enjoy with our mothers inshaAllah. The Hadith of Prophet Muhammad PBUH, “Jannah lies beneath the feet of the mother,” is inscribed repeatedly.
Subtly placed in the background is another Hadith: "O Messenger of Allah! Who is most deserving of my fine treatment?" He (ﷺ) said, "Your mother, then your mother, then your mother, then your father."
The ornately designed door, adorned with Islamic motifs, represents the 'Door of Mercy,' one of the doors to Jannah that remains open as long as we serve our parents. When a mother passes away, this door closes, highlighting the fleeting opportunity to earn paradise through love, service, and mercy toward her.
Beneath teardrop details is the story of Owais Al-Qarni, a man who sacrificed meeting the Prophet Muhammad PBUH to care for his sick mother. The Prophet described him as “unknown on Earth but known in the skies” and someone whose dua is always answered—a powerful testament to the reward of serving one’s parents.
Let this painting remind us of the mercy Allah commands us to show our mothers. Though human, imperfect, and flawed, mothers are to be treated with the same mercy Allah extends to us.
This artwork urges us to honor our mothers, seek their duas, and embrace the fleeting opportunity to earn our place in Jannah.
