A Study of the Throne
Do We Truly Understand Ayatul Kursi?
Saleha ContractorArtist
We grew up learning Ayatul Kursi as the most important verse. We memorized it in childhood and recite it every day for protection. But I had to ask myself: do we truly understand it?
That question became this collection. For the first time, I've created a collection as one body of work: a series of six paintings that all respond to a single central theme, the Throne of Allah. I studied every hadith and tafseer I could find about the Kursi and the Throne, and each painting answers one piece of what I discovered.
One question. Six paintings. One body of work.
Above the highest Jannah rests the Throne of Allah, the greatest of His creation. From what we know of the unseen, nothing about it is still or ordinary. Each painting is my humble attempt to imagine it, layered to feel mystical, like a glimpse into Jannah.
