The Story

Coolness of Eyes

“Our Lord! Bestow on us from our spouses & our offspring the coolness of our eyes & make us leaders of the righteous.” Surah Al- Furqan 25:74

"My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small." Surah Al Isra 17:24

The "eyes becoming cool" is an Arab idiom. This expression equates to finding refuge from a storm. In today's world, the storm can be found inside our homes. In this powerful and beautiful dua, we are asking Allah SWT for our home to become a place of refuge. A place where our worries disappear when we come home to our spouse & children.

The strongest bond is that between a mother and her child. Remember when Musa AS's mother put her baby in the water to save him from Pharaoh? Can you imagine not knowing what's happening to your child? So imagine the feeling when she was reunited with Musa AS. Allah SWT used the same expression to describe the most indescribable feeling: the coolness of the eyes.

This painting was inspired by this indescribable feeling. The floral prints symbolize the pure bond between a mother and her child. The white streaks symbolize the modern-day sand storms that we seek refuge from while the dominant blue represents tranquility and calmness. With this theme in mind, I included a dua for our parents as a reminder to slow down and show patience during their old age and to treasure our time with them as they may not be around for long.

May these powerful duas become part of our daily prayer inshaAllah

Queens of Jannah

Ayat Ul Kursi

"Which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?"

Fatima RA: She was called Um abiha (the mother of her father). She would often come to the defense of her father whenever he was attacked. Aisha RA reported that she’d never seen anyone resemble the Prophet PBUH more in speech, character, and conversation. She was known for her patience.

Khadijah RA: She was an intelligent, influential, and wealthy businesswoman. She was also the first to accept Islam after the Prophet PBUH received revelation. She undertook many sacrifices to support the Prophet in his mission. She was known for her loyalty and her good character.

Maryam RA: She devoted her life to prayer and worship of the almighty. She was known for her piety, chastity, and faith. She demonstrated how to truly have tawakkul- trust in Allah SWT during difficult times.

Asiya RA: She chose faith over royalty. Despite being married to Pharaoh, Asiya AS was still a woman of perfect iman. She was known for her generosity. She raised Musa AS and was a stern believer in Allah SWT. After Pharaoh had become aware of her devotion to faith, she suffered severe oppression.

The feminine tones and floral touches symbolize modesty and piety. The textured tracks symbolize the stages of life for these women. The drip effect represents the tears and struggles. The common themes in the lives of these great women were piety, trust, patience, and gratitude. Their faith did not waiver during difficult times. They found true friendship with Allah SWT. This reminded me of the verse, “Which of the favors of your Lord, will you deny?”, Surah Rahman. Ar-Rahman originates from the word ar-Rahm, which means the mother's womb. A child in the womb is taken care of in every possible way. A mother will do everything to protect her unborn child. Similarly, Allah loves us and takes care of us regardless of what we do. He’ll never abandon us so let’s trust him and show gratitude.

Ayat ul Kursi also adorns this painting being the greatest verse from the Quran. One who recites Ayat ul Kursi every morning will be in the protection, the safety of Allah until the night. May Allah SWT protect us and grant us the taufiq to emulate the beautiful conduct of these icons.

NOTE: If you order stretched canvas or rolled canvas, the edges will be white.
